If Saguingoira had his way it would be all classical in the tournament. :-)

But we must be fair and make sure that it is equal all the way around. Anyway, JMK kept reminding me that it wasn't the Jive. She says stuff like "Bad Java" and shakes her finger at me.

If there are more like that in the tournament, I'll be a happy man.

Is it possible to make a tournament fair and equal all round? I'm not sure it is when picking individual topics. Nor when using randoms for that matter.

There aren't a lot of war-based topics out there, are there? Any contributions you can think of to rectify that Kev?

How about one on weaponry used by different armies?

SA80 is used by the British Army
M16A4 is used by the US Army

...and so on?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_modern_weapons_by_country and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_individual_weapons_of_the_U.S._Armed_Forces could be useful?

What do you think?

yup, weapons is good, a lot of crossover in that subject mind you. I'll sort out tanks and suchlike first.

Cross-over can be dealt with. We just need to enter a fact for every country that uses a weapon. In other words, we need 1,000 different facts to say which countries use the AK-47. :)

Current weapons or mixed up with historical ones too? That might mix it up a bit.

Also too if the categories are mixed. That way you can have single shot, semi-automatic, automatic pistols, grenades, grenade launchers, bayonets, mines and crew served all in the same category.

Therefore Australia for example would have weapons relating to it such as the 9mm pistol, Steyr, SLR semi-auto, the Belgium AR, the M-16, M-60, M-79 & M203, Lee Enfield 303, that pea-shootin' 9mm POS sub-machine gun we used to use, the SRAAW, the Minimi, the "Charlie Guts-ache" (Carl Gustav), the Javelin, the F1 frag. grenade and even the M9 bayonet.....amongst many others.

Might even up the effect of all dem AK-47s.

Oh.....thanks emerald.

I always thought that Cheap Trick's signature tune was "Surrender" though......or maybe "Dream Police".

Historical weapons could be good too. Is it worth splitting them into past and present topics or one big free-for-all, do you reckon?

Of course, then there's military vehicles...

Well remembering what happens to big subjects I would think smaller ones would be better.

I think it may depend on what you want....and if you don't wish for the ubiquitous AK-47 to swamp all the questions.

In that case, I would suggest the following subjects (if we don't already have them):

Infantry Weapons used by countries - past and present - A big subject, but one way to make the AK seem a little less significant

Artillery weapons by country - past and present

Naval weapons platforms by country - current - including surface and sub-surface - Janes Book of Ships would be the "go to" reference there

Naval weapons platforms by country - past - including surface and sub-surface...particularly interesting as you could go back a long way

Bombers by country - past and present - including Army Air Corps

Strike fighters by country - past and present - including fighter/bombers like say, the F-111

Miscellaneous military weapons by country - Gathering up all the "hard to classify" ones

The best fun would be getting all the codes right.....LOL

Just in case anyone else thinks military weapons subjects may seem gory or glorifying of war....

Some of these items of equipment really are feats of engineering and I am sure any subject prepared would be that which records technical history and would be devoid of prejudice.

I think it's a great idea personally.

Except for mentioning that pea-shooting POS (Piece Of Sh**) 9mm machine gun that the Australian Truckie Corps. always loved......wankers.

;-)
