Buckminster Fuller, American architect, author, poet and inventor taught in 1950s-1970s at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale -- record producer Kurt "Kobane" Couthon was born in Carbondale as was Lori Metcalf of "Roseanne" and "Desperate Housewives"
