Had Both North and South America Named in His Honor
Born to wealthy Florentine family, he became a businessman involved in trading imported goods. After moving to Spain in 1491, Vespucci became a skilled navigator and after his explorations of 1501-1502 he was one of the first to believe that the Americas were not part of Asia.
