   is the capital of   
Bihar
A central eastern state of India. It is the birth place of the first president of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Bihar is the birthplace of several religions including Buddhism and Jainism. After his return from South Africa in 1917, Mahatma Gandhi started the freedom movement in India by his satyagraha in the Champaran District of Bihar. Patna is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on Earth. The city has been known by various names during its more than two millennia long existence —Pataligram, Pataliputra, Kusumpur, Pushpapura and now Patna. It is located on the south bank of the Ganges River. Mahatma Gandhi Setu is a bridge over the river Ganges connecting Patna in the south to Hajipur in north in Bihar. Its length is 5450 meters. It is one of the longest single river bridges in the world.
