(1951) Williams was hired by the BBC in 1942 to compose incidental music for a radio play version of this John Bunyan allegory. Williams wrote the libretto, and tried to universalize the central message of sprituality by changing the protagonist's name from Bunyan's choice, "Christian", to the more diplomatic "Pilgrim".
