Beloved American Humorist and Writer, raised in Hannibal, Missouri right along the banks of the Mississippi River from which he would find the inspiration for many of his stories. , Only 2 of his 7 Siblings Survived Childhood. He became a steamboat pilot, which rewarded him with about $250 per month – the equivalent of about &155,000 today. When his dream about his brother’s death on one of the Steamboats came true about a month later, Twain joined parapsychology groups, but was guilt-stricken over his brother’s death for life.
