The root of the word 'Volcano' and also 'Vulcanised', a process whereby rubber is strengthened by the addition of sulphur or other chemicals in the presence of heat.

Derived from Vulcan, the Roman god of Fire.
(1800-1860), USA. Rubber products melted in hot weather, froze and cracked in cold, and adhered to virtually everything until the day in the mid-19th century when inventor Charles Goodyear accidentally dropped some rubber mixed with sulfur on a hot stove.
Vulcans have green blood and live two to three times longer than humans. |
