A southwestern state of India. formerly known as the state of Mysore until 1973. Kannada is the official and most widely spoken language in this state. Karnataka comes from the Kannada words karu and nādu meaning "elevated land." Bangalore is the anglicised version of Bengalūru in the Kannada language. Bangalore is known as the Silicon Valley of India as the leading contributor to IT in India. Also an area of aerospace, telecommunications, software and defence industries.
