look everyone - it is a bright and shiny new year - all unsullied and full of potential.  Let's try and keep it that way please!

Anyone made any resolutions?  Has anyone broken them yet? It's been 18 hours for us and so far not broken any. One is to be more patient with our youngest daughter aka devil child - as I haven't spoken to her today so far so good - LOL!

You are the 2nd best Aussie in our site.  But I am number one.

To watch our Sydney counterparts take all the glory is ok.  Melbourne is the richest city in the country but that's fine.

You know what I would like to do?  Go to Uluru and NOT climb it.

Why?  Because the local people asked me not to.

We climbed it - back in the 80s - amazing experience nearly spoiled by another tourist who was complaining loudly and angrily that there were no toilets on the top!!  He then proceeded to pee in front of everyone!  Bad move mister, my hubby was a serving NT police officer at the time so promptly arrested him for obscene behaviour and there was a WA off duty cop there as well so he assisted Wayne and the gentleman got hauled off the rock!!

Ok, I'll try again.....

The point is to consider NOT climbing it because the local indigenous people would prefer you not to.

The Anangu people of Central Australia regard Uluru as a sacred place.  In fact, Uluru features in the mythology of just about all of the 250 indigenous tribes of Australia.

If 50 Australian aborigines scaled the dome of Saint Paul's Basilica in Rome, there would be hell to pay.  BUT I bet a certain pope would interfere and excuse them.  Why?  Because he's Pope Francis, that's why.

Pope Francis knows there is no difference between sacred places.  Be it a dome in Rome or a big rock in the middle of the Never Never.

Climb it if you wish, but I never will.  Not because I can't.  But because I was asked not to.

No tee shirt for climbing it. But you should get one for the flies.

You're a Pom.  You brought more than enough flies for your own tee shirt.
