On October 12th 2006, I noticed a link on Google called Factacular. I had no idea of what to expect when i signed up to participate here. There weren't the wonderful variety of facts and tournaments back then to play. I met two very nice women named Cazza and Tea Bag who were very pleasant and from Australia. I had never been on MySpace or any other social media site so I wasn't used to chatting with people except through email. I liked learning new things and getting to know people from Europe the far east and in North America. One of the friendliest and most amazing friends I made was Susana Sanchez from Mexico.  She was always so expressive and had such a zest for life. It was such a shock when she died now about 8 years ago. The interesting discussions with her and Guiness John and Kev and other people helped me to understand that people wanted to be friends as well as competitors.  Cack was our fact leader back then with the highest number of known facts on her list.  One category that I still have never mastered is the Shakespearean Plays. The characters there still are a challenge.  Meeting Count Factacular was so nice because he was the first website owner and designer I had ever met. I think the most unique thing I have always appreciated the most about Factacular is the ability to become part of the site. Over the years I have learned how to research, create topics and submit facts to be played as part of the game. The small number of people here has been a benefit, most of the time, because we have been a community and cared about each other most of the time. I am pleased too that I helped to create the idea of the Decathlon when we were first thinking about it. Disco Stu did nearly all of the nuts and bolts of building the Decathlon but I did help in formulating what it was to be and how big a scope it was to cover. I loved the era when my team in the Kevvie would create entertainment for the other teams as we played the Kevvie. Val, Maureen and Lucy were my partners then and we all got along famously in our efforts.  All in all I still consider Factacular a unique place to come home to often. I miss those who have left or died or somehow wandered away. I am glad for the friends I have made here, some I know on Facebook too.  Thanks for all the kindness I have been given in these 10 years. I hope I have made this a better place for being here for the decade.

This place IS a better place because of you and all that came before and after you Allan.

It maybe a slightly more technical and sensitive place. But that is a good thing, not a bad thing.

We guys, some almost as old as you relative to site membership, love the challenges our new guys throw at us that remind us we are not here just for self indulgence, we are here for them more importantly.

Our role in this site is to make it grow, promote inquisition, get members to join in across the spectrum. Some of us go out of our way to do our best.

None of us should forget the "originals" who helped set everything up to a certain extent.

But neither should we forget the followers that pledged their time and effort and helped make Factacular.com into the site it is today.

In summation, we have all played our part.

It's been an honour and a pleasure playing alongside you Allan.  Your musical interludes in the Kevvie have always been great entertainment.  Happy 10th Anniversary!

Java and I have five months to wait.

She joined on the 27th of March 2007. I joined three days later.

Neither of us have ever done this before......belonged to one site for so long.

(Facebook? Well I have managed to figure out how to unregister from Facebook. It took a while though. Screw you Zuckerberg!)

Neither Java nor me has any wish to leave this site.

It's fun, it's challenging, it's rewarding and we are just as social as any website out there. It just depends on when members will get off their tushies.
