The two best teams may well be named after UK fags (Royals & Super Kings) with give them a charming unethical appeal and the best name has to be the Kolkata Knight Riders (who Nakul appears to be behind), but I'm going to have to be a Deccan Charger.

Any team that can pick such a batting lineup (Laxman, Gilchrist, Afridi, Symmonds, Gibbs) without giving two hoots about any worthwhile bowling (OK, apart from Vaas) gets my ignorant support every time. Entertainment all the way, and they'll only win when they bat second.

And having just seen Gilchrist do what he does best, I'm all aglow :)

COME ON YOU CHARGERS!!!

Wabzy, what I think isn't defendable or debatable really, I just thought I'd prime the pump and see what flowed from the collective Factacular brain.

Although as Stu's official be-atch I do have some relevance :)

As an aussie cricket fan BBI, please excuse my ignorance......what's the IPL?

I presume it's a cricket league. What sort of cricket? Indoor? One day?

(this is all my fault. I have not stayed up to date with my online sports pages)

IPL is the Indian Premier League which is the ICC sanctioned "All star" 20/20 competition. Lots and lots of star cricketers (no Poms, as it clashes with our season and current contracts) making a lot of money.

Here's a couple of links one is from Wiki and the other is the Official Site

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Premier_League

http://iplt20.com/

Depending on your age, it may remind you of what Kerry Packer tried to do back in the 70s with his World Series.

Yeah....you mean the pyjama cricket era. LOL I attended a few of those matches.

My first day/nighter was at Waverly Stadium in Melbourne. We were playing the Windies (West Indies). I was this close to the Master Blaster (Viv Richards) as he strode out to bat. Short guy, but bloody big shoulders!

Ok then, thanks for the references....I'll go check 'em out.

I'm not so sure C4L, each has their place, baseball's far more immediate and situational, whereas cricket, in its various forms, ebbs and flows over a longer cycle. And as you yourself say, America's pastime vs a game played throughout the former British Empire, and is by far the number one sport in the largest democracy in the world (India).

And don't forget that at cricket the bowler's allowed to send a 90 mph ball at a batsman's head without seeing the pavilion emptying :)

BBI, I just don't know anything about cricket at all. I am a persaon who gets addicted to sports so I would probably love it. Baseball has gotten to be too much a money game in this country. The management just buys the players it really needs. Is it like that in cricket, too?

Ya, but see? you want the pavilion empty. It's more fun that way! I'm joking of course. Anyway wabz, it sounds like you are a non-Yankee in Yankee territory.

Actually, C4L, I love the Yankees. Can't stand the Mets. If I watch baisbol I watch the Yankees. There was a period of time where I never missed a game, either on TV or on radio. I love the Yanks!

I don't think I know where you are from, C4L? Which team are you in love with?

After Harbhajan's recent exploits, I'm throwing my weight behind the Mumbai Indians. If anyone in cricket needs a good slap it's Sree Santh.

Not that I condone violence. Usually.

yes naughty mr singh. not the for the first time this year either. he should have been a fast bowler not a spinner. not having it with the chargers bbi. erm gilchrist? oh yes that well no pommie baiter. dont mind symonds. well when he was playing for lancs. erm laxman. that would be the same vvs who when lancs were going for that epic run chase last year and finally broke my heart scored a ton and was promptly out for being too pleased with himself. and afridi. the same chap that took advantage of a coke machine exploding by trying to turf upthe pitch against england. dont mind vaas.
oh and i dont like twenty20 as there is not enough drinking time.

As far as cricket goes, I do like the idea of the bowler being allowed to aim at someone's headat a fast speed. Must be exciting.

Well, whaddaya know, Harbhajan banned for 11 IPL matches. That means he has no chance of playing in any of the matches during this season.

The Deccan Chargers sure have a formidable batting line-up, but they have not made the best use of it. They have won only one outta four matches.

Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils are 3 teams which will surely qualify for the semis.

As I am from Bangalore, I just hope they make into the semis with the help of Misbah-ul-Haq, Kallis, Boucher, Chanderpaul, Dale Steyn and of course, Kumble.

P.S. Did you know that Kumble lives next door to me in Bangalore?

Sorry Nakul, although Kolkata has by far the best name, Ganguly upsets me a great deal and stops me from choosing them.

As for Bangalore, did anyone tell them that it was going to a 20/20 tournament? Dravid, Kallis & Chanderpaul are going to struggle to bat for the draw ;)

Come on GJ, I'm not in love with them as people but it's going to be a hell of lot of fun to watch.

As for cricketers I have "issues" with...

Fernando - The fake ball to Bopara still upsets me, and I propose that such antics should result in no-balls henceforth.

Ganguly - Horrible arrogant little man and I'm sure you have a multitude of stories from his brief time at Old Trafford that backs up my judgement.

Sreesanth - Needs more slaps

Looking at the teams I should really have plumped for the Mubai Indians as on paper they look magnificent, and also include Luke Ronchi, which has to be the best name for a wicketkeeper ever. But where's the fun in picking the best side to support?

yup i agree bbi. the fernando thing was a disgrace. cant believe less was said about that. that was the chappell of its time. my view is if you go past the umpire and lose your action its a no ball.
erm yes ganguly wasnt popular here. at all.
would prefer to see inzaman ul-hag play twenty20. that would make the running interesting. and as for living next to cricket players. great. cant complain when you hole their fence/windows.

Kev, don't ever call baseball a girl's game, or else I'll take your head off with a baseball. Consider it fair warning that I'll be in the U.K. in June, so I can make it happen. I probably could from where I am now. I just need a good bat with a big sweet spot :P
