Mornin kids and kiddesses. There are now a proliferation of tournaments and I think we need to sit down and get a timetable drawn up so they don't interfere with each other.
Deca, Kevvie/Susie, Javajive, are monthly already but is a 3 month wait too long ?? maybe rotate them on a 2/3 week cycle instead of 4 weeks ??
Kris has some good ideas for knock out cups etc, can we run them alongside established tornaments??
Tushers Susanna Memorial is coming up , where do we place it ? Xmas/New Year ? ASAP ? Quarterley/Annually ?
I think it's time we got organised guys, lets have some input

It's a 2 month wait for the Kevvie or the Java Jive and a 1 month wait between decathlons.

I think......
The Decathlon is a given running once a month what is it the 2nd Monday of the month?
The Java, every alternate month, the first week
The Kevvie, every alternate month, first week
The world cup - not established a time table yet
the olympics - again we dont know Kris suggested every 4 months
so i think there is no need for panic or organisation as its all running fine.
The Mexican Wave, can be run i think quarterly, and we can start it in November, as there are no competitions running at the end of a month, we can have it in Nov this time and then skip a month to delay it so we can have it on her anniversary on September 29th next year, so i propose Nov, [i dont like xmas as a lot of people away and have family commitments, so Nov, March, June, Sept
How does that sound?

The Factacular World Cup --- is a monthly competition which starts every 2nd Monday of the month.
And the Factolympics are organized every four months (to a Stu's suggestion - which I found it interesting - cause the Original Olympics are organized every four years.).
So the 1st Factolympics were in August, so the 2nd should be next month (November).
I'm thinking in a month where there are the Factolympics - there won't be Factacular World Cup. Is that a great idea? Otherwise I though about having it both of them, but that will be plenty of job and time consuming for me.

Isn't it a bit premature to say that a tournament will be quarterly before we've even come up with a solid idea for it?
I know the motive behind coming up with a new tournament is in honour of Su but still - it's a tournament. It could be that the format we try first time is just no good. It might be too much work, too dull, too long-winded, too similar to other things out there. Obviously, it might also be the most amazing tournament and the highlight of the site - and I hope that'll be the case.
Why don't we just concentrate on getting a decent format and trying it out before worrying about where it fits into the calendar? No sense in putting the cart before the horse, right?

Susana's Birthday was March 4. Wouldn't that be an appropriate kick off, even though it is a bit far off? Otherwise how about That abysmal week right after New Year's Day when everyone is ready to knock heads?
I don't know what you are planning but I sincerely hope there will be a focus on South of the Border for this tournament. It is just the right thing to do. She learned English, let's do some Spanish speaking stuff, too. With a focus on all different Mexican items. If we need to add them let's do so.
I think we should send Tusher's a horny Chihuahua when her dear bitches are in season and try a bit of crossbreeding. What say, Tushers? LOL

yea i love Labs but their health problems stopped me getting one. they have weak bones and their eyes are probably the worst ailment, and because i have a phobia about going blind i couldn't cope with a blind pet.
they also suffer from hip dysplasia, like cavs, they have heart problems and generally die young

My aunt has a Labradoodle and he's healthy as an ox. And huge as one to boot. I have a cockapoo who's like family and she's supposed to have inherited all these breed-illnesses from both sides, but she's healthy too.

We did rescue our dog. We were going to a phillies game and there was a picture of her in the window because they were giving her away because her owner was in the hospital and her neighboors couldn't take care of her anymore. her name used to be princess which she is, but we renamed her coco.

I like tossum the best. I found that picture online. I had a cat who looked like it when she was a kitten. Last night my husband and daughter saw someone steal my cat. She was sitting on the sidewalk across the street. A man and woman held out their hands to her ,she went up to them and the man scooped her up and they jumped in a car and sped away. Alison ran out but could not catch the car. We are in shock. She was a very friendly cat. She is four and a half years old. She was born on St. Patrick's Day. Her name is Aunt Pitty Pat Hamilton.

Aren't we getting a bit tournamented out here? The Susie is fine but it should NOT take the place of the Kevvie. Perhaps four times a year is too frequently to play the Susie if we get too many tournaments. Maybe twice a year is best.
The kevvie must go on because it is different and because there are 4 to a team and that is that. We don't give up one to be replaced by another. We add, not delete.

the MEXICAN WAVE is an independent quiz run 4 times a year in memory of a dear friend.
all other competitions are run as usual, also if you feel there are too many you do not have to play them all just play in what you feel comfortable with.
This thread is to show clearly where each tournament stands and when each one is set to run.

A few of the earlier posts talk about the kevvie/susie, Wabzy thinks that the Mexican Wave is the Susie, so Wabzy thinks that there's a possibility of the Kevvie being replaced by a different tournament.
Wabz,
The Kevvie is the Susie (a name change was suggested at some point), the Mexican Wave isn't the Susie, nobody has suggested getting rid of the Kevvie at any stage, so creating a "Keep The Kevvie Kampaign" is just confusing everybody.
Does that clear things up?

Well BBI thank you, i missed that kevvie was changing the name to the Susie, and Wabzy wrote to me asking me to let the Kevvie remain, so this is why i thought she thought the Wave was called the susie, but on NO occasion had the Wave EVER been referred to as the Susie. except by Wabzy

Tushers, I will put my two cents in here. Susana's birthday was March 14. Having the Tournament in her honor anytime in March will be great. I loved her dearly but I think having 4 memorial tournaments for anyone per year is too much. That is just my opinion. And, I do think it should be composed much more of questions having to do with Mexican things and Spanish language things. Just offering up my ideas here. I won't take offense at however it is sone.

We will have the Mexican Wave once a year as it is a Memorial Tournament. A date has not been decided upon as of yet, but everyone will be informed.
I agree Wabzy, there should be more Mexican and Spanish associated subjects in the tournament, so we need a few more contributions from the members to help it along.

Wabzy, it is called the Mexican wave. when we post to give notification for sign up we will be writing all about sus and why we are having it so no one will be ignorant as to who it is for or why we are running it. I don't think you understand the symbolism of the name "Mexican Wave " Wabzy.
It will be run in September this year to honour her first memorial, and to give a chance for people to add more Mexican subjects. the following year we may move it to March and have it on her birth day, we are not sure, and that will be discussed wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy later.

Of course I understand the Mexican Wave and I have objected to that name from Day One since it doesn't include Susana's name and therefore DOES NOT make it clear to new players who is being honoured. Calling it the Susana Memorial Tournament would be far more appropriate but have it anyway you like. I don't give a rat's ass about this site anymore. There's no rhyme or reason to anything so what the hell difference does that make? I, for one, do not need to play a tournament to honor Susana, and i DO NOT like the name mexican wave at all, since it is a cheer. Do you really want to cheer her untimely death? I am not even wasting my time thinking about this until mid-summer but OF COURSE I understand the name M.W., I just dissaprove so I continue to call it the Susie. Just my way of shortening it and taking the "Cheer value" out of a solemn event. Honestly, I HATE the name Mexican Wave. I want to honor the memory of Susana , not the entire country.

I think honoring a person in a tournament can be done in a number of ways, BBI. I only take issue with the exclusion of Susana's name from the memorial tournament. That's all! I don't think it appropriate to have a "Wave" as a celebration of her live as it was here. On Factactulatr her claim to fame werre her lovely personality and her tremendous ability to score points while using English as a second language. To me, a true honor to Susana would be to include many bi-lingual topics and drop the football cheers. Just my view, BBI. What are your thoughts? YES. I do think she would like it to be done differently. She was a demure, thoughtful, intelligient woman. I would like her to be remembered as a very upbeat woman who was friendly and welcoming.

With the Wave we are not as you put it "cheering her untimely death", we are celebrating her life with a tournament in her honour. When i started this we had a short list of names and at the end of the day the Wave was born. i actually love it as every time i say wave i actually see her sitting there waving at us all,, the LAST thing she would of wanted if for you to get all uptight over what we called it, she wouldn't of given a damn what it was called she would be honoured and even embarrassed that we have one in her memory at all, she was like that.
You can call it what you want. but at the end of the day when i post about this it will be called the Mexican Wave, and i will feel warm talking about our dear friend and see her wave to us all.
you getting mad will not change this. there are more important things to worry about then the name of a competition on a web site with people you do not really know, unless you are friends out side the site. Dont fight over it Wabzy just let it lie, the name stays.
sure i remember you kicking up a stink when we hadnt even run the first wave saying how you didnt want it at all, and the Kevvie was so much better. when it was over you still said the kevvie was better and you said this both on teh site and to me personally, so i dont think the wave really means anything to you. sorry

The software Java and I have is not set up properly for a rally decathlon so we could run it but it would be partly manual which is more work, we will think about it. Of course someone else may want to run it manually.

Afternoon anand, this thread is dedicated to organising various tournaments we hold monthly/weekly/annually. If you go back a step to Community and check out Decathalon and Sir Kevington you'll see how to join in. The next tourney due is the Decathalon which is a killer but all are welcome and good fun is had by all. Obvously biased bt the Kevvie is the best tourney and will be run next month, plenty of time to get the feel of the site before diving into the fray.

I still don't have a clue what is going on but I have great fun joining in with the Tournaments. Sign-up forums are usually posted the week before the tournament starts and close 1-2 days before the tournament starts.
The Kevvie
First week of each month alternating with the Java Jive
Teams of 4 - participants find their own team-mates or can get assigned to a team
6 random challenges per day Monday to Friday

The Java Jive
First week of each month alternating with the Kevvie.
Teams of 2 - participants are assigned to a team, with newer members teamed with those who have been on the site a longer based on user ID.
6 single subject challenges per day Monday to Friday. Subjects are challenging and in some cases downright evil.

Decathlon
Third week of each month.
Individual competition
One brainoff from each of six different categories (e.g. Music, Science & Nature, Language, History & Mythology, Movies etc.) will be sent each day for five days, a total of 30 challenges (3 from each of the 10 categories).

Single Category Tournaments
Usually the fourth week in each month though can sometimes vary.
Individual competition
