January 2011 Decathlon
Roll up! Roll up!
The January Decathlon will begin on Monday January 17th. The rules are listed below. To take part, simply post “I’m in” in this thread. Sign-up closes 1am Monday the 17th GMT.
Decathlon Rules and Conditions
• Players wishing to take part in the Decathlon must sign up by indicating their interest in the Sign-up forum
• The management (being the person/people running the current competition) reserves the right to refuse to accept a player in the competition at their discretion
• The decathlon will be played out of a single round (no qualifying round for the final)
• One brainoff from each of six different categories (e.g. Music, Science & Nature, Language etc.) will be sent each day for five days, a total of 30 challenges (3 from each of the 10 categories).
• Each Decathlon Brainoff will have 10 questions randomly chosen from the category
• Challenges will be sent out by the Tournament account.
• Brainoffs will be sent every day from Monday to Friday inclusive. Players will have 48 hours to complete a challenge. Challenges will be sent out at approximately 9.15 am GMT.
• If more than 8 players sign up then they will be split into groups of equal sizes, or as equal as possible, and groups will be assigned randomly by computer
• Scores will be posted in a dedicated thread. Updating the scoreboard is a manual process but scores will be updated at least twice each day, more often if possible. The winner is the person with the highest overall points total in the 30 brainoffs.
• In case the Factacular site hiccups, we will spring into action and resolve issues as soon as the site is up and running and continue with the competition. We do respectfully ask that everyone play their challenges as soon as possible after receiving them --- you will be less likely to be affected if the site goes down. We will only replay challenges if the site is down for more than 12 hours on the last day of a challenge. We will not replay for anyone letting the challenge time out or for minor site glitches.

Ooooo... kev, if only I'd known - my mother had that just before Christmas, I got her phone sorted within 2 hours and broadband connected by Thursday after Christmas !
The way to do it is to constantly escalate; and make sure you have the call reference number so you don't have to keep repeating yourself.
Highlight to them your infirmities, and if you don't get the answer you want then ask to speak to a line manager, and constantly check that the person you are speaking to has updated the call with the conversation you've just had (plus write down the persons name and the time you spoke to them so that in the likely event of them not recording the promise they made to move the earth for you then you can tell the manager on your next call that you want a transcript of the phone conversation you had with so and so at such a time to add to your complaint to ofcom).

Alas count me out for this one - moving to our nation's capital next week so will be busy shuffling boxes and the like. Hopefully the debris will be cleared in time for Feburary's decathalon. Enjoy everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!
