Looks like a few people have made scored heavily during the batting powerplay. Can't see it continuing once the spinners come on and the field spreads out :)

I blocked the ball, it spun up into the air, came down and bounced off the bails, and got caught by a slips fielder.

Oh.....and the fielder took off the other bail for good measure too because I was over the crease and my bat wasn't grounded.

At which point, the ball got stuck in my knee flap. When I picked it out, the slips cordon went up again in a chorus of "HOWZAT!!!".

1, 2, 3 and 4.......must be world's record.

Similar......not quite the same......he does lose his temper though.

A cricketing duck is sometimes nick-named "Daddles" - well, that's what Channel Nine called the animated version anyway.

He's called forth whenever a batsman was out for no runs. Usually an embarrassing situation and so they created an animated duck to parade angrily across the screen as if to add insult to injury.

What did Attenborough once say? Oh yes....."Spared no expense!"

May I offer a scenario to those who are unknowing of how exciting cricket can be...

It's a sultry night in Melbourne with a final in action at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground).

It's the last over of the second innings. Sri Lanka has scored 325 runs in her first innings and has succeeded in bowling Australia out of nine of her ten wickets for 321 runs.

Australia is within spitting distance and all it takes is for us to hang tight and wait for a ball to belt into the outfield for four runs to tie.

The Australian Captain takes his time but eventually tosses, almost casually, the ball to Dennis Lillee. The Australian dedicated bowler takes up his task with glee. Ball in hand, he straightens his pants leg and rubs up the shine.

Dennis strides out his run-in length pausing to rub the ball some more. His victim, the batsman, starts to take stock of his life.

Lillee turns to assess his victim. The batsman forlornly positions his bat. Lillee begins his run up, accelerating, steam blowing from his nostrils, teeth bared, eyes bulged, the Lillee release about to be unleashed.....

Dennis Lillee releases the cricket ball at a speed of approximately 85 miles per hour and aims it to dig into a point roughly two feet in front on the batsman whereupon the ball does an amazing thing.....

It digs into the turf and actually BUILDS speed firing towards the batsman's head. The batsman, in defense, brings up his blade to fend off the sure end of his tenuous existence. The skidded ball screams silently upward.

And the breath of the entire Melbourne Cricket Ground hangs in mid-air for an instant.

I am NOT making this shit up. That's a cricket final.

I wish I could give you the formula........but it's way more complicated than that.

You're definitely making something up there jmax!

If Australia need only 4 more runs to win then why are they bowling rather than batting?

jmax... you have to bowl a short pitched ball in order for it to be a bouncer (a ball that rears up at the batsman) It also helps to be tall. no no no ....sorry I defended cricket..I'll stop now...

And let's not get into the physics of a ball building speed after leaving the bowler's hand... :)

as it was 3 in morning when I read jmax's post I thought it was me misreading. so I would like to second Stu's first post.also seconding Leo's post. Probably explains why Australia lost yesterday.

If only I'd managed to count to five properly on that solar system question!

Nicely done BBI. Thanks to the 2Js as always.

Congratulations to BBI, and commiserations to Stu on going so close. You probably don't want to know this, but you now own the highest score not to have won the Decathlon!

There's already quite a crop of PBs this month. I'll name names once the tournament completes.

Soooo...I've lost the last three decathlons by a hair's breadth and lost this one with the best ever score by a loser.

You stats people really know how to cheer a guy up. Thanks.

To be fair, you've taken the "Best losing score" title away from a 60257 I got back in December '08, trailing you home by a thousand or so.

Reading that thread brings back some memories...

Well, just looking at the other side.

Still the overall leader in titles.

Never been below 50k.

Most times over 60k.

On this side of the pond you would be considered the NY Yankees of Decathlon....

And then there is your contribution in regards to the program that allows the whole thing to be managed by yourself and the editors.

Tough breaks lately, yup, but still a showy record if you ask me.

Not to mention 91 subject wins out of a possible 390 (including 3 more this month).

It's starting to read like a hall of fame plaque.

"Finished his career ranked 1st in overall wins, subject wins, and career scoring average as well as holding the single decathlon records for subject wins, highest overall score and highest losing score. He is pictured wearing the uniform of the Black Pig where he first found success in Factacular's team formats."

Mine would read:

"Won a few, came second a lot" :)

As I recall you were a Black Pig too.

Formidable team.

You plaque would also have to mention your nickname, "The Procrastinator". :-)
