Factacular Cup - 13 June to 17 June 2011 - Entry Forum
Yes folks, that’s right. The time has come again to give you all another shot at that most moving of targets....the random brainoff based Factacular Cup.
For those of you that have joined more recently, the Factacular Cup is a competition geared toward individual achievement, specifically in regard to that trickiest of “moving targets”, the Random Brainoff!
Anyway, I (jmaxg) offer myself as the tournament organiser and here is how it should all pan out – see following post…

ORGANISATION AND RULES
After the first day of “all in – all entrants” play, 16 finalists are chosen according to highest cumulative scores and each finalist will pit their wits against another finalist in a “one-on-one” random 10 question challenge in order to try and fight their way through to the next round. During the finals, it's winner take-all (sudden death) so only one player makes it through the competition without a single loss. They become the holder of the Factacular Cup till it is played again.
By the way, the current holder is Quiz3000.
Now, pay attention to this next bit……
It is important for the conduct of the overall competition to complete this on time so there will be shorter than usual time frames for challenges….MAXIMUM 24 hours. Apart from the FINAL round of the competition, these timeframes will be strictly adhered to.
The selection round (first day) challenges will be sent at approximately 3.30am GMT on the Monday of the competition. The first knockout challenges will be sent at approximately 4.30am GMT the following day. Subsequent challenges will be sent at varying times depending on when the challenges are completed.
How it works:
• There will be an initial selection round (or "Qualifying Round") where each player will be sent SIX 10 question random brainoffs. Players will have 24 hours to complete these six challenges. These initial selection round challenges will be sent by Tournament.
• At the end of the 24 hours, scores will be gathered and the 16 players with the highest total scores across all 6 challenges, out of all entrants, will proceed to the knockout phase of the competition.
• The scores from the initial selection (qualifying) round will be used to determine the fixtures for the first knockout round, with the player scoring highest in the 16 finalists playing the lowest scorer in the 16 finalists, and the remainder of the players then being allocated their place/opponent in accordance with a pre-determined but standard seeding method.
• Each game within the knockout rounds (day 2 onwards) will be a 10 question random challenge. These challenges will be sent by the tournament organiser – jmaxg.
• After the first knockout round, challenges will be assigned with no seeding, but in accordance with the tournament results tree which will be displayed prominently within the competition forum.
• The winner of each challenge will go through to meet a new opponent in the next round. In round two there will be eight challengers, round three there will be four and just two in the fourth and final round.
• Any knockout round matches which result in a draw will be replayed until a winner is determined. Replays only will be 20 question random brainoffs and sent by the tournament organiser as soon as a tie is discovered. These replays need to be completed as soon as possible and definitely within 24 hours - with the exception of the final(s). Posting a message in your brainoff when a tie occurs will speed up this process.
• Any player who does not respond to a challenge within 24 hours will be considered to have forfeited that challenge - with the exception of the final(s). The forfeit rules are designed to stop the whole tournament being held up by those who can't play regularly - the idea is to keep it fast-paced.
• In case of disputes, the tournament organiser's decision is final.
In case the Factacular site hiccups, we will spring into action and resolve issues as soon as the site is up and running and continue with the competition. We do respectfully ask that everyone play their challenges as soon as possible after receiving them --- you will be less likely be affected if the site goes down. We will only replay challenges if the site is down for more than 12 hours. We will not replay for anyone not playing within the 24 hours or for minor site glitches.
The Tournament Organiser and his sidekicks volunteer their own time, so have some patience with the resolution of any problems that you may encounter and expect that there may be delays in the immediate posting of results as these are updated manually. Please send a private message to the Tournament Organiser (jmaxg) if you encounter problems or discrepancies. Decisions made by the Tournament Organiser or his sidekicks (javalyne and JMK) are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Let’s see a spirit of fun and lots of friendly comments and barracking in the brainoffs as I will be posting direct links to all finals challenges. The occasional “crush-kill-destroy” would probably be fun too! But remember, as with Factacular itself, comments are not meant to offend.
Most of all though - it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s all about playing the game and having fun!
Oh….and winning the Cup would be cool too – a singular honour, so to speak.

Huh?
No....the play format is still the same. Six randoms to play on the Monday which will comprise the Qualifying round. See we'll see by the aggregate score where each of us ends up......in the Factacular Cup, the Factacular Plate or the Factacular Mug.
Then the usual......win every time or go home.
The "tweaking" to which I refer is that I have done some re-formatting of some areas that you see in the competition forum. Designed to be easier to review....a "one stop shop" as it were. Anyway, you'll see.

Oh!
Well, I prefer not to second-guess the potential of any entrant....kev included.
But I can confirm that yes......kev has been knocked out in Round One in EVERY Factacular Cup competition since I started running them. And he has participated in every one as well.
BUT....he has been in the top competition is ALL but the first. As if that is any consolation.
Still, ya just never know, do ya.
