The June Decathlon will begin on Monday July 18th. The rules are listed below. To take part, simply post “I’m in” in this thread. Sign-up closes 1am Monday the 18th GMT.
Decathlon Rules and Conditions
• Players wishing to take part in the Decathlon must sign up by indicating their interest in the Sign-up forum
• The management (being the person/people running the current competition) reserves the right to refuse to accept a player in the competition at their discretion
• The decathlon will be played out of a single round (no qualifying round for the final)
• One brainoff from each of six different categories (e.g. Music, Science & Nature, Language etc.) will be sent each day for five days, a total of 30 challenges (3 from each of the 10 categories).
• Each Decathlon Brainoff will have 10 questions randomly chosen from the category
• Challenges will be sent out by the Tournament account.
• Brainoffs will be sent every day from Monday to Friday inclusive. Players will have 48 hours to complete a challenge. Challenges will be sent out at approximately 7.15 am GMT.
• If more than 8 players sign up then they will be split into groups of equal sizes, or as equal as possible, and groups will be assigned randomly by computer
• Scores will be posted in a dedicated thread. Updating the scoreboard is a manual process but scores will be updated at least twice each day, more often if possible. The winner is the person with the highest overall points total in the 30 brainoffs.
• In case the Factacular site hiccups, we will spring into action and resolve issues as soon as the site is up and running and continue with the competition. We do respectfully ask that everyone play their challenges as soon as possible after receiving them --- you will be less likely to be affected if the site goes down. We will only replay challenges if the site is down for more than 12 hours on the last day of a challenge. We will not replay for anyone letting the challenge time out or for minor site glitches.

Be aware that trying to refresh or exit during a brainoff could result in a 0 score. There should be no need to refresh now as browser freeze should have been eliminated with the latest changes.

Unfortunately that option doesn't work anymore. If you exit the brainoff will be over and you won't be able to continue. You will retain your score up to that point but can't do the rest of the challenge.

But I still managed to drop straight through a Daily Brainoff today and score nothing. After clicking to start (just the once) the screen "hung" for no more than a few seconds, then presented me with my big round score. Thankfully it wasn't in the Decathlon.

Psst...
If you refresh the browser (press F5 to do it the quick way), it'll prompt you to confirm whether you really want to leave the brainoff (and score 0). The timer will still be ticking away when you do this but the next question won't display.
So, if you're in the office and need some kind of "Pause" functionality, that's an option.
Just make sure you opt to "Stay on the Page" when you're ready to resume.

Sorry, I should probably have mentioned...
Older versions of some browsers and any version of Opera won't gve you a warning that you're about to leave a brainoff and score 0. So, using Refresh as a Pause will mean you'll score zero if you're not using a modern browser besides Opera.
We'll implement a proper pause option at some point.
