Facta 30 Day Movie Challenge - Day 19
Day 19 – Favorite movie based on a book/comic/etc.
Contact. I huge fan of Carl Sagan and found the book as well as the movie very entertaining. Except the darn romantic story!
Jaws. Loved the book, loved the movie and John Williams' interpretation of a shark attack was excellent.

read lotr in '68-'69. never really hoped to see it done justice in the movies. somehow through the magic of location, direction, casting, graphics tech, etc.
it came surprisingly close. of course the real magician was Tolkien.

I read the books as a teenager and have read them a couple of times since. Tolkien is brilliant.
I went to an exhibition in Wellington on the making of LOTR and it was great. They had most of the scaled models. The Minas Tirith model was amazing.

Two books from one of my favourite novelists, Kazuo Ishiguro.
"The Remains of the Day" and "Never Let Me Go" are also two excellent films.

Of course To Kill a Mockingbird. Favorite childhood book: Little Women...and Elizabeth Taylor was such a snippy little Amy in the first movie ...maybe that wasn't the first one??? I just wish Beth didn't have to die. Peter Lawford was the perfect Laurie in spite being a member of the real life Rat Pack!! Recent movie that I liked almost as much as the book: The Help...great casting, I thought.

I read To Kill a Mockingbird last month and saw the film for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I probably didn't do the film any favours by seeing it quite so soon after readnig the book. It's a good film, of course, but it just couldn't live up to expectations.
Lord of the Rings though? Well, there may be bits that Jackson missed out or got wrong but I can't say that I care. Superb films.

"The Dark Knight"
Just can't get enough of Ledger's "Joker" depiction. Hypnotic. That particular blu-ray disc gets played to death.
With "Hunt for Red October", check out online entries for the submariner called "Whitey Mack" and the antics of the USS Lapon (SSN-661) particularly during a trip taken back in 1969.
Clancy based a lot of "October" on that particular incident.
