Last day of the Movie Challenge. I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the Challenge. It's truly wonderful to share movies based on the themes of each day, picking up some wonderful film suggestions to be seen, some films to be avoided and just good conversation. It was indeed a pleasure to have you all here.

Day 30 – Your favorite movie of all time

Citizen Kane. Orson Welles' masterpiece. A story that really is not appreciated until one gets a few years under their chin and correlate the storyline with real people in the past as well the present who let power corrupt them, yet never achieve what they are really looking for and need. One first films to actually have ceilings shown and one has to admire the way that lighting and angles were used in the film.

Rosebud.

Tough one, but I'd have to say

Amelie - A captivating tale of a beautiful French girl who begins a quest to bring joy and happiness into those unfortunate people she encounters. A life affirming film that leaves you with a great big grin on your face.

Truely is a tough call... for everyone I guess... But when I've trawled through all of them in my mind I teetered on the brink with Young Frankenstein but Funny Bones is my all time favourite even beating Love Actually and Mary Poppins!

For those that don't know, "Once Upon A Time In The West" is an extraordinary film. I recommended it to a close friend and afterwards she just RAVED after never paying attention to a western EVER!

Maybe it was the vision of a blue-eyed Henry Fonda smiling as he cocked his six-gun and pointed it at a six year old kid. For almost 30 years, American audiences never saw him pull that trigger. It was obviously deemed not in the USA's interests to see one of their favourite sons commit such an atrocious act.

Whereas that remains one of my favourite films of all time, my criteria for choosing THE BEST comes down to simple factors.

What film that I have watched makes 3 hours seem like 15 minutes?

The films that classify are:

"Ben-Hur" (1959)
"The Ten Commandments" (1956)
"Gone With The Wind" (1939), and
"Citizen Kane" (1941)

Of those films, I have to give it up for the most "outside-the-box" version.

Therefore, my choice is also that of my missus......

"Citizen Kane" (1941)

I'd also like to thank the missus for doing this. Even though I suggested it to her, she took the bull by both horns and provided us with interesting and challenging categories.

Well done Honey.

I don't have one film that is outstanding for me. There are many I love and watch time and time again. If you were to push me against a wall and slap me with a wet kipper I would profer 'On Golden Ponds' and 'Guess who's coming to dinner' as being up there at the top. Both with the fabulous Katherine Hepburn.

Thanks Java for all the hard work

Funny Bones is a brilliant film and one that deserved a better distribtution on its release. I only caught because my local cinema got a print from an arthouse chain and showed it. It's funny, poignant, life affirming and bloody good film all round!!

"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"

Now, there is a guy who dislikes this film immensely.

Melvin Van Peebles is an American film maker that once asked a question about this movie.....

"If Doctor John Prentice was this worldy qualified (the film makes a point of it) person, why is he falling for some teenage receptionist?"

Whether he is white or black or she is white or black, Mr. Van Peebles does make a good point.

BUT, let us remember that the film was basically a vehicle intended to pass time before a soliloquy. As it turned out, it was Spencer Tracy's last.

If Mr. Van Peebles wants to make a big deal out of that perfectly valid and poignant issue, let him go right ahead. I am not saying he is not right. Actually, I think he is.

BUT, if he wants to try and rob me of the opportunity of watching the great Katherine Hepburn standing there and visibly tearing while she watches the love of her life deliver what she thought was his best performance as Spencer (Matt Drayton) explains that old prejudice must die and that new ways must begin and this is what we must do to evolve, then I am sorry Melvin........I refuse to hate this movie.
