Factacular Cup - 31 October to 4 November 2011 - Competition Forum

 Welcome Competitors and Spectators to the Factacular Cup competition form!

This is the place to be when checking up on the status of the Factacular Cup at any given time as well as the place to go when wishing to wax lyrical, place hoodoos on competitors, or cheer on your heroes.

In the next four posts, you will see following:

These will be the posts to check when looking up the current state of the overall competition.

I will also be endeavoring to post links to all the games being played during the finals in both the Factacular Cup and the Plate Competition. So keep an eye out for those links, newly posted as the games are sent, in the comments below.

I want to take this opportunity to wish all contestants the best of luck and to remind everybody that ALL brainoffs will be of 24 hours duration (as set by Factacular.com).

Well, after a period of quiet there, we finally have more match results forming in the latter stages of Round One.

Some expected results as well as a couple of unexpected results.

One match that has no results at all as yet is the BBI vs daft thistle game (see link above). It's kinda late for neither of them not to have played. I wonder if a bit of gamesmanship is going on there. But then again, maybe their iPad batteries ran out.

One of the unexpected results had me gettin' the android (FactaCupAdmin or FCA) to re-check a few times....

FCA: "Boss? Looks like kevg is on to round Two."

Me: "Are ya sure? Check it."

FCA: "I already have."

Me: "Then check it again!"

Nahh, it's for real apparently. For only the SECOND time in the history of this version of the Tournament, me brother kev has actually made it to Round Two!

Well done kev......the Semi-Final's the charm though.

Right then......I'll instruct the android to go ahead and prepare the Round Two matches (Semi-Final for the Plate) for those we can while we await further results from the rest of Round one.

Perhaps we should all spare thought for player caro......patiently awaiting her semi-final match for a couple of days now in the wake of the RUI/Tazing draw and subsequent rematch.

Hang in there caro..........you should know your semi-final opponent early tomorrow at the latest.

Thanks. Apologies for the pace of the tournament seeming a little slower than normal. Lower number of entrants/players meant that less matches were flying back and forth in the ether. A lot of waiting going on in this one.

Hopefully, the numbers will be back up next time.

Interesting Statistics.....

Top Scorer during Tournament Overall (including qualifying round)

kevg with 19,866.

2nd was Nemesis with 18,138.

3rd was Quiz3000 with 17,000 flat.

4th was some guy (USS Palladin) who got knocked out in the first round of the finals. His points? 15,415.

(sucks to be you Skippuh)

Ain't sudden death tournaments wonderful?

Ok, tournament evaluation.....

This was the first Factacular Cup tournament where the brainoffs were limited to 24 hours by Factacular.com itself.

I don't know if any of you noticed that, but it was made possible thanks to the efforts of Doctor Factenstein and I thank him for that.

I personally found it distasteful to monitor and default non-players. So I much prefer that Factacular does it for me. Same result I know. But still, I would rather the site call it than me or that clanking clunker of an assistant of mine.

I again apologise for the slower than normal nature of this tournament. A lower than normal player response meant that the tournament had to be, for the first time, configured to eight berth for the Plate. This meant that there were way less matches flying about and, as a result, a lot more waiting. The RUI/Tazing draw in Round One of the Plate didn't help either. But rules are rules and so that's how it goes. A pity that Tazing never made the rematch. But professional obligations take precedence and I think everyone gets that.

(poor caro though - she watched that bloody clock for three days!)

I also accept that I did less than I could have in promoting the Cup during the entry forum phase. But alas, I was involved with overseeing certain aspects of the Sizzling Science tournament then and I overlooked my usual role to some degree. Anyway, it won't happen again.

As usual, I want to thank all participants in the tournament overall. Without you guys, and your acceptance of the overall structure, this would not work.

And I will see you all back I hope for FactaCup9 (this one was FactaCup8) whenever JMK pokes me with a stick.
